Holiday Spirits & Ale (beer soap)
HOT & STABLE
A wheat ale beer soap from a popular North Carolina brewery. Brewed with orange peel, we've added orange essential oil and oats. Who knew beer makes great lather! Great unisex fragrance for men too.
|
When I was in high school, looks were everything. I think it was different for the boys. They had other pressures, like to be macho (built) and cool. Girls had to be cool too, which was completely tied in with our looks. The overwhelming message was, looks were everything--no, they were the most important thing. In oneself, in choosing your friends, and in your boyfriend--if you could land one. Somehow, it was never about how smart you were, what a great writer you were, or how well a guy treated their girlfriend.
And so this holidays I want to celebrate men who treat us well and support us so we can do all that we do everyday. A stable man is hot. The looks do not maketh the man. Ingredients: (Vegan) Olive Oil, Organic Palm Oil, Coconut Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Mad Beach Wheat Ale, Organic Palm Oil, Shea Butter, Orange Essential Oil, Oats

O Christmas Tree (organic, vegan) [SOLD OUT]
OPEN CARING
Get ready for the holidays. Imagine Christmas caroling, and dragging the 7’ Christmas tree through the snow. This soap has a rich pine tree aroma with organic ingredients and shea butter for a creamy rich bar.
This is a tough one. Especially for me as a Chinese female. Openness and caring did not necessarily go hand-in-hand. For that matter, openness wasn't in our vocabulary period. Basic survival took priority and being open probably was not conducive to survival, or at least there was no extra attention to be paid on emotional/cheesy stuff. Just not getting killed and having enough to feed the family took all of one's attention. Obviously families cared about one another. But it certainly wasn't shown through physical affection, at least not regularly, and not verbally.
It's still hard for me to say 'I love you.' I didn't like hugs until well into my 20s. I make myself do it, but it doesn't come naturally. But I think it's important, to show the ones we love how much we love them. And remind them the reasons why, often. We all need to be reminded. Ingredients: (Organic, Vegan) Organic Palm Oil, Water, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Shea Butter, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Sunflower oil, Fir Needle Essential Oil, Parsley Powder |
Forest & Cloves (Vegan)
FEARLESS CARING
A woodsy spicy blend of amyris (sweet and smoky), clove, and a touch of anise.
|
Caring hurts. Opening up one's heart and wearing it on one's sleeve hurts more often than not. Is that a reason to stop? No. But it does take guts and the knowledge that it won't kill you. It feels like it is, but it won't.
Many of us had people leave us when we were young ones. It makes it harder to care now as adults. But the hurt is old, and we just get to try and remember that we have an infinite ability to care now for an infinite number of people. Ingredients: (Vegan) Organic Palm Oil, Water, Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Olive Oil, Essential Oils of Amyris, Cedarwood, Clove, and Anise and anise seed powder |
Orange Spice & Cloves (Vegan)
OPEN-HEARTED IS SEXY
This soap has the classic aroma of bay essential oil (spicy and light floral scent) with a touch of orange. Men—and women—love this energizing, spicy scent.
|
The Marlboro Man has been touted to be the desirable man. Tough and unemotional, all I can imagine is serving him hand and foot while he sits and looks handsome smoking on the couch. We women are emotional creatures. That's a good thing. I'd like to be able to talk, emotions and otherwise, with my male partner. Loving and affectionate is sexy. Tough and distant is not. Let's carry our open-heartedness this holidays into the new year. Ingredients: (Vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Bay Essential Oil, Orange Essential Oil, Cinnamon Essential Oil, Rosehip Powder, Annatto Powder |
[1 left] Apple Pie (Vegan)
ADMIRABLY PATIENT
Imagine a blend of sweet, crisp apples, spiced with cinnamon and cloves. Sweet, a little spicy, and warm.
|
Patience is not an easy trait to have. It's thrown around a lot-- 'be patient' -- but it's rare to find these days. Sure, people wait in lines out the door for restaurants in NYC because that's the norm. But biting your tongue when you're arguing with your partner. That's harder to do.
There are many reasons why many of us struggle to find the patience to be patient. Many of us were not treated with patience when we were little. Thus it's hard to find it now. My mom left when I was little. My brother and I were left with an abusive dad. So I don't like waiting for people now. It took me a while to nip my lateness pattern--it did help when I realized why. Good things come to those who wait. I don't usually like cliches but I like this one. Ingredients: (Vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Orange Essential Oil, Cinnamon Essential Oil, Clove Essential Oil, Kaolin Clay, Ground Cinnamon |
[1 left] Holly & Berries (Vegan)
HOPEFUL BRAVERY
Smells like Christmas--this soap combines cypress and berries for a deep, rich pine note. Infused with cedar, amber, and musk with hints of jasmine, this complex soap creates a clean, fresh fragrance.
|
To be brave is inherently hopeful. To be hopeful oftentimes is an act of bravery. It's no easy feat to be hopeful. That is the root of depression. It's hard to act when you think nothing will come of it. As with most things--including and especially physical things-- it's all in our minds. We have to believe we can do something first before we can actually do it. That may seem illogical, but it's true. You may recall this for anytime you have succeeded at something. You at least have to act, as if, you have already succeeded.
We are human. Sometimes we have to release our emotions, vent, cry, yell, before we can function. That's OK. That is actually normal. But then we get to decide to be hopeful and put one foot in front of the other, and act as if. Ingredients: (Vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Strawberry Seeds, Green Oxide, Ultramarine Blue |
[sold out] Evergreen & Lavender (Vegan)
EXUBERANT LOYALTY
A delightful blend of forest essential oils. Rich evergreen trees with a calming touch of lavender. Imagine lying in a hammock amongst a flock of evergreen trees, and a field of lavender.
Loyalty isn't really in vogue these days, you could say. Company loyalty isn't. People barely stay at a job more than 2 years anymore. Definitely not dating loyalty. How many times have you had a great date and never heard from the person again? (This is NYC-biased, remember.) It's a rare quality these days.
I think exuberant loyalty is to be treasured -- both given and received. Whether you're happily loyal to your boss and doing a job well done. Or loyal to your partner--married or not. Maybe you're loyal to your girlfriends, they're just like family. It's nice to stop and think about what's really important in life sometimes. That's what's nice about the holidays, to remind us what's important the rest of the year. Ingredients: (Vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fir Needle Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil, Parsley Powder, Ultramarine Pigment |
[sold out] Peppermint Tea Tree (organic)
POSITIVELY THANKFUL
Sharp peppermint notes with a touch of Tea Tree for a rejuvenating, refreshing shower. Peppermint leaves added for exfoliation. Not recommend for sensitive skin or children as peppermint essential oil can be quite strong.
There are so many things to be thankful for. We get to remember throughout the year, not just during the holidays. (FYI, it helps in getting one out of bed too.) As a Chinese female, I have always been thankful for being born in a time when I have freedom and power over my own life. I am not at risk of being given or literally owned by another man. I am not at risk of committing suicide if I have an accidental pregnancy with a secret love who then abandons me.
It doesn't mean I haven't fallen into traps with men in the past and had to extricate myself from very hard situations. But I had the means and control over my own life to be able to do so. I had girlfriends nearby to help me, both physically and emotionally. I keep with me, my Chinese female ancestors and their strength. And I honor them and myself by not forgetting the freedom I have today. That includes speaking up to sexism and racism and the internalized messages too. Ingredients: (Vegan, Organic) Organic Palm Oil, Water, Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Olive Oil, Peppermint Essential Oil, Tea Tree Essential Oil, Cajeput Essential Oil, Peppermint Leaves, Parsley Powder |
Pumpkin Pie (Vegan) [sold out]
PERSEVERANCE
Who doesn’t love pumpkin pie? Reminiscent of autumn, cold weather and holiday gatherings. Smells so good, you have to remember not to eat it! With shea butter for extra silkiness.

Starting a new business has certainly not been easy. But luckily that's not why I chose it, and the challenges do not deter me. Anything worth doing, takes time. And you are more likely to succeed at something big that you really care about, than something small that you don't care much about. (Tim Ferris writes about this same concept.)
I used to start a lot of writing projects at once. It took me a while to realize I did that so I would never actually finish one. Because if I didn't finish one then I could say, 'oh well it's not that they sucked, I just never finished it.' Instead of taking the leap of actually pushing through and finishing and honestly looking at if it was any good, learning from it, and moving on. You have to be willing to fail in life if you want to succeed. Life is full of ironies, isn't it? Persistence always pays off. Ingredients: (Vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Iron Oxides, Annatto Powder |
Fresh Firewood (Vegan) [sold out]
FUN & FIERCE
For that winter cabin, fresh woodstove smell, with a subtle touch of smoke. A foresty, manly fragrance. And have fun in the shower with this "black light soap!”

Both fun and fierce are important qualities to have as a female these days. It's important to make sure you have some fun every day. Doesn't have to be big, but something that makes you smile, something you look forward to. That's important. That's something just for you.
Being fierce is also important. In most things these days, people will walk over you if you let them. Whether it's asking for raises, or organizing a petition or taking care of yourself when you're sick. Standing up for yourself is crucial as a female. If you don't, who will? Sometimes others will speak up on your behalf, which is great, but you can't assume they will. It's important to take things seriously in your life. It's your life after all. It's also important to not take life too seriously. Daily laughter is so helpful. Ingredients: (Vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Black Oxide, Neon Color |
[sold out] Under the Mistletoe (Vegan)
UNBELIEVABLE MIRACLES
Notes of citrus, spruce, and cranberries create this magical holiday fragrance. Infused with fir, peppermint, and cedar leaf essential oils will leave you smelling and feeling refreshed.
It seems like unbelievable miracles happen everyday. Are they still miraculous? Yes. Are they seemingly impossible? No.
Miracles are really just a result of actions where someone persisted and persisted until they succeeded. People see the end result and think it's a miracle. Whereas the people who worked their butts off feel it's about time. Sometimes things happen that we don't understand--alternative medicine, a new technology, mother nature. Just because it's confusing to us doesn't mean it's unknowable. It also doesn't mean you couldn't understand it if you tried. This is all to say, a lot of things are in our control. Some things aren't. But it's still better to be proactive about something than to throw up our hands, do nothing, then when someone else succeeds say it was a miracle. Ingredients: (Vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Oats, Green Oxide, Red Clay |

Sunset Daiquiri (Vegan)
(ART OF) SEDUCTION
Could use some tropical weather right about now? This is a great soap with fruity notes, like banana and grapefruit mixed with vanilla and berries. A SAVO favorite.
Ingredients: (Vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Mica, Annatto Seed Powder
|
Seduction seems to get a bad rap these days. It’s either seen as sexual and evil or manipulative and underhanded. It really doesn’t have to be any of those.
There’s a great book called ‘Seducing the Boys Club: Uncensored Tactics from a Woman at the Top’ by Nina DiSesa. She talks about seduction as an art form. It doesn’t mean tricking or lying. It simply is a way of getting what you want by helping others see your point of view. Like successful advertising, it’s subtle and it’s convincing the other person to want to help you and even making them think it was their idea in the first place! Win-win! No, it’s not a magic potion that you use to put a spell over people. You actually build real relationships with people so that they really like you and want to help you. Not easy in a closed, arrogant boys club, but Nina writes about it brilliantly; what she figured out and how to be feminine and lead men successfully. After the book, I started applying it to my own life. We always want people to do what we want them to do—whether it’s our boyfriend, husband, or parents. How can you think of an encouraging motivator or reward, that isn’t demeaning or unrealistic, and will actually push them toward their goals? |

BROWN SUGAR & LEMONGRASS (vegan)
BALANCED & STABLE
Brown Sugar & Lemongrass soap infuses the sharp lemony zing of lemongrass into the sweet sugary aroma of brown sugar for an outstanding warm sugar and lemon aroma.
|
I used to live atop a bar in Manhattan. Actually I was on the 5th floor (walk-up) and yet I could still hear them singing Happy Birthday almost every night. Friday and Saturday nights were the worst. Not because they were any louder than Monday Tuesday nights, but because I felt the worst. I was supposed to be out drinking and partying too, the voice in my head said. And if I wasn't, then that meant I was lame and had no friends.
Our society doesn't emphasize being balanced or stable. It's not very profitable to be balanced or stable. That would mean you don't need our fancy car, or expensive makeup, or uncomfortable but exorbitantly expensive shoes if you felt OK about yourself. That would mean you wouldn't need drugs or alcohol or cigarettes or sugar when you wanted to numb out your feelings, if you felt OK about yourself. Balanced and stable isn't boring. It's a good thing. Just hard to profit from. |
Ingredients: (vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Lemongrass Essential Oil, Lemongrass Herb
CALMING LAVENDER (vegan)
COMPASSIONATELY LOGICAL
Welcome to the world of lavender. You will smell the rush of lavender essential oil contained in this soap. For all lavender lovers and those wanting some help in relaxation: Lavender essential oil is known to be analgesic, antidepressant, as well as known to soothe minor burns and sunburn.
|
There is a common belief that you either use your head or your heart. One or the other. Like they are somehow disconnected. Or that they should be disconnected. I disagree.
To be logical is simply to do what is rational, what makes the most sense at the time for all involved. Taking into account the larger context (or community) as well. Being coldly logical is simply an excuse to be selfish. To think with our hearts and act compassionately does not mean that we are weak or gullible or what we're doing does not make financial sense. All for one and one for all. Win-win-win situations. Those are real. We are human. It is logical and rational to act humanely. Ingredients: (vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Lavender Essential Oil, Ultramarine Pigment |
CRANBERRY PEACH (vegan)
COMFORTABLE IN HER POWER
Fruity and complex but not overpowering. Reminiscent of tart cranberries blended to perfection with sweet peach and a touch of rich vanilla.
|
It took me a long time to begin to feel comfortable in my own power. Another thing that I think is different for men. They are used to feeling powerful, or at least acting like they're used to it. Women, not so much. As females, we are (generally) raised to be pretty, quiet, polite. It's hard to be bold and powerful when you're busy trying to be pretty and polite. There are definitely some cultures where women are more vocal and it's accepted. However, their power lies in the household and usually not outside it. And their financial power is often limited.
I started feeling more powerful when I started learning my history. I was fortunate to land in an Asian American youth leadership organization. Learning about racism helped me realize that what felt like personal failings were actually part of a larger oppression. Racism existed in my white middle-class suburbia. I didn't simply feel unpopular for no reason. It's important for all females, young and old, to feel comfortable in our own power. It will improve the world immensely. Ingredients: (vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Kaolin Clay, Iron Oxide, Turmeric |
FRESH SQUEEZED OJ (vegan, organic)
FLOWING SELF-EXPRESSION
Sweet orange essential oil, bright and pleasant, imagine a juicy clementine. This refreshing soap is a great pick-me-up first thing in the morning. Made with organic vegetable based oils, this natural handmade soap contains 85% organic ingredients.
|
Being an artist is not easy. Actually doing anything where you have to express yourself is not easy. Whether it's the 28 year-old female dancer and choreographer I met this weekend or an actress who's been acting onstage for 23 years, showing your true, authentic self is quite daunting.
This soap is for the artists, the designers, the speakers, teachers. All who need to create something true from our hearts everyday, for the public to critique or ignore, or hopefully love. Ingredients: (vegan, organic) Organic Palm Oil, Water, Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Olive Oil, Orange Essential Oil |
LAVENDER LEMONGRASS & GOAT MILK
(MAKE YOUR) LUCK!
Take olive oil and creamy goat milk. Blend it together. Now add some light lemongrass essential oil plus lavender essential oil. The aroma is calming and refreshing. Not too strong for those with prefer a lighter lavender scent. And wonderful for all those with super sensitive skin out there.
|
Luck and opportunity are not dissimilar things. Luck is simply preparation plus the right timing. Opportunity can only be seized when preparation has been done. Thus there is no such thing as pure luck. It is only seizing the opportunity after a lot of hard work. Again, power and control is in your hands. Carpe diem. Seize the day. Ingredients: Olive Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Fresh Goat Milk, and Lavender Essential Oil, Lemongrass Essential Oil |
PEACHES STRAWBERRIES & CREAM (vegan)
A PRECIOUS SPIRIT
This bar is as sweet as its name. A perfect blend of light citrus enhanced by hints of peaches, strawberries and raspberries blended with cream and a touch of white musk.
|
Every young female deserves a huge party to greet her when she is born. To say, yay we are so happy you are here and that you are female! We love you because you're you. We wouldn't want anybody else. Your presence makes the world better. You make our lives better. What a difference that would've made if we all got to have that as our foundation. Ingredients: (vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Pink Clay, Mica |
RASPBERRY VANILLA (vegan)
RESILIENT VULNERABILITY
This bar captures the sweetness of raspberry with none of the tartness! Blended with vanilla for a light, lovely sweet aroma.
|
To be vulnerable is not usually considered a desirable trait in this world. To be vulnerable is usually likened to weakness, a failing, an opening to being attacked by enemies.
Resiliency, on the other hand, is considered a positive trait. The ability to recover quickly from difficulties. One could say that it is a tremendous ability to stay vulnerable and open in the face of being hurt and over and over. And yet, that is what we all do as human beings. We get into new relationships, even when we have been hurt in the past. We open up again to someone new, even when it does not seem 'rational' to do so. It takes courage to be vulnerable. And when someone chooses to be vulnerable, to show themselves instead of acting tough and closed off, it is huge bravery. To risk being attacked, so as to be true to oneself. Ingredients: (vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Kaolin Clay, Iron Oxide |
[sold out] Lemongrass (Vegan)
LIVE A LOT
With real lemongrass plus lemongrass essential oil, you will be head-over-heels in love with this lemony soap.
Also known to relieve fatigue and recharge your soul.
While this is the first time I’ve really tried to have my own business, most of us have been 9-5ers our whole lives. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s just that sometimes we can get into a rut. We might start complaining. Complaining about our boss, our coworkers, our clients. We start looking at the clock way too much and want to kill time. It’s times like these when it’s especially important to have things to look forward to.
I’m part of a counseling activist community where we talk a lot about ‘news and goods’ and what we’re looking forward to. I can always tell when I struggle to think of a ‘looking forward to’ that I’m in trouble. It’s always important in life to have plenty of ‘looking forward to’s.’ It’s especially important when we’re down to have things to look forward to. It’s an essential part of being human. Whether it’s tango class on Tuesdays or yoga with the teacher you have a crush on, looking forward to something is how we keep our hopes up. It’s the little cherry on top that makes everything look better. And raises our spirits just that tiny bit that makes a world of difference. |

Activated Charcoal (organic)
ALLURING COMPASSION
Charcoal, you say? Yes! Activated Charcoal draws dirt and oil from the skin. Loads of charcoal goes into this organic soap for maximum cleansing effectiveness. No fragrances or essential oils—just charcoal and soap!
|
Instead of empty charm, flirtatious suaveness, how about just plain old kindness and compassion? That's hot!
What is charm really but the ability to smooth-talk strangers because of one's good looks and eloquent speaking skills? Do you really want to date a politician? Would they be as charming if they weren't so damn handsome? Once you get over the goo-goo ga-ga-ness of it all, what if anything are you left with? What if we women were turned on by kindness, gentleness, and thoughtfulness? Instead of dash and charm? Where would that get us? Ingredients: (organic, vegan) Organic Palm Oil, Water, Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Olive Oil, Activated Charcoal |
Cowboy Musk
CONSISTENCY IS MANLY
Imagine riding horseback through the desert with a rich leather saddle. This soap is made creamy with goat milk and blended with sagebrush, patchouli and musk. A strong, manly scent.
|
Another hot trait: consistency. Consistency, along with reliability, just doesn't seem in fashion anymore. It's considered boring, not exciting, not sweep-me-off-my-feet romantic. But do you really want your life to be a roller coaster, or would you want the father of your kids to be reliably consistent?
Obviously I'm talking about consistently good here. Consistently responsible, consistently supportive, consistently encouraging; not consistently lazy or consistently sexist. Consistency is the new sexy. Ingredients: Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Fresh Goat Milk, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance |
Green Leaf Clover (Vegan)
GORGEOUSLY GENUINE
This soap is sweet, fresh and clean with notes of green clover. Perfect for men and women.
|
First impressions are important. But so are 4th, 5th and 10th impressions. People are often able to fake their first couple of impressions. And how do you know the difference, you just met them? But usually after a few meetings, it's hard to continue faking it. Most people are terrible actors. They're just too lazy to keep up the act.
Men who say something and actually mean it are hard to come by these days. There are people who will say anything to get what they want. There are people who will do anything to get what they want. But it's hard to find people who say what they mean and mean what they say. Genuine. To me, that's gorgeous. No one wants to be ordinary anymore. They want to be unique, special, original, talented. They want to stand out. Then again, they also want to be normal and not stray too far from the status quo. So which is it going to be?
Ordinary is good. An ordinary relationship means your relationship is stable, with no ups-and-downs, predictable and steady. It doesn’t necessarily mean boring. It just means it’s a bedrock foundation. And that’s a good thing. Health is another example—you don’t want anything out of the ordinary. Just plodding along, consistent, regular. Over the years I’ve learned I just want an ordinary guy. Not a model, not an actor, not a hero, not an expert. They have too much ego, too high-maintenance, too much responsibility, and too much thinking. I just want a steady guy, to live out our ordinary lives, and watch ordinary sunsets by the ordinary ocean. Combined with laughter, ordinary can be a lot of fun. |

PERSISTENT PASSION
Lightly scented pomegranate and pear combination for a refreshing and fruity bathing experience.
With an added bonus of blueberry seeds for extra exfoliation.

Passion is key. Without passion we dread getting up in the morning. We hate Mondays and love Fridays. It’s good to be passionate about something. You don’t have to love what you do, you could love how you do it. As long as you love something, it means you care and that means you walk around with a light in your eyes.
Sometimes passion is not enough. And that’s OK. As long as we realize that passion is not everything. It doesn’t necessarily translate into a successful business or successful marriage. It’s a spark, but not the journey. That’s where persistence comes in. Persistence means pushing forward, trying and trying again, failure after failure, when you feel like giving up, when others tell you you’re crazy for not giving up. If we can combine persistence with passion then we’ve got something. |

Grapefruit Margarita (Vegan)
GREED IS GOOD
A nuanced soap with grapefruit, orange and lime for a fresh, citrusy aroma.
This natural soap also contains aloe and shea butter for a rich lather and soft silky skin.
Ingredients: (Vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, Grapefruit Essential Oil, Orange Essential Oil, Key Lime Essential Oil, Organic Aloe Concentrate, Kaolin Clay
|
Growing up I was taught that greed was a bad thing. As a Chinese girl you’re always supposed to put others first. Cook for others, caretake others, you soon start to forget what your own needs are; that you have any; that you have a mind of your own.
No matter what culture you grow up in (except maybe the owning class) there is a sense that you’re not supposed to want a lot. That’s greedy and selfish. And that’s bad. What if greed was good? And being selfish was good? Taking care of yourself is a good thing. And gathering up a lot of resource for yourself so that you can affect change is also a very good thing. It’s all just a matter of perspective. So go accumulate a lot of resource, money, wealth, sales for yourself. Then you can go out and do all the good that you wanted to in the first place with it which you couldn’t have done without having been greedy first. |
Super Shea (Vegan)
SASSY
Great for sensitive skin, this mild soap has no essential oils or fragrances.
A rich, hard bar with moisturizing shea butter and lots of olive oil will leave your skin soft and smooth.
Ingredients: (Vegan) Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil
|
In Chinese, there is a term called ‘guai.’ It means simply, to be good. However, it’s used only for children and has an added hint of submissiveness and obedience; you should do what you’re told. And thus ‘being good’ is very early on equated with being obedient. Not very good for creativity or a sense of initiative or independent thinking. Good for school. Not good for say, entrepreneurs.
As a kid, I was always good. Which meant getting A’s (not B+’s, the shame!) and studying, studying, studying. And playing piano and violin. Maybe that’s why I rebelled later and got married and divorced by age 24. I started to have my own opinions and mind about things. Even in this day and age, girls are still (generally and maybe subconsciously) raised to be good. Boys can ‘be boys.’ Sassy is definitely not good. Sassy means you have your own mind, you speak up, whether the majority opinion is like-minded or not. And oftentimes it’s not. I think that’s a very good thing. Who are you living your life for, if not for you? |

At age 26, I moved from Boston, Massachusetts to Honolulu, Hawaii with no job, apartment, nothing. Crazy? Sure. Not the first time I’d been called that. Some friends were even jealous, which I thought strange. Anyone could just up and move like me—it’s not like I had just won the lottery or anything. It was absolutely terrifying. Until I realized actually, no, not everyone could-- jump and take a leap of faith. But let me explain how I found myself here.
I had gone to Hawaii for a wedding. I tried surfing and absolutely fell in love with it. I started to dream about living there, but cut myself short. ‘This is crazy’ said the voice in my head. But then I thought, if my mom—whom I love to death—wanted to do something like this for herself, I would totally encourage her to. And why should I be any different? So I took a leap of faith. In spite of my terror that no clear plan was set out for me. In spite of not knowing anyone on an island in the middle of the ocean. In spite of not having a job or apartment. (My only plan was to stay at the Y and job hunt on my 3-month savings.) All for what? Palm trees? Daily rainbows? Yes, and—I loved the amazing thrill from surfing, a feeling I never experienced before—a combination of ecstasy plus boldness plus just plain zest for being alive. The people were warm and I loved the Pacific Islander culture (and food). I decided to choose life, though terrifying, instead of staying with what was safe and known. And I’m so glad I did. |
